Goodwill as Intelligence - Mitra’s Path to Clarity and Problem‑Solving

Goodwill is one of the most underestimated forms of intelligence.
Mitra teaches that a friendly heart often solves problems the mind cannot.

This insight came alive for me in the latest episode of Fiona’s Adityas Podcast, where I sat with Nadamayi to explore the healing power of myth. As we spoke about Mitra, the Aditya of friendship, clarity, and benevolent problem‑solving, I realised we were talking about spiritual technology!

When we meet life with goodwill, something in the world responds. Obstacles soften. Solutions appear. The mind clears. It’s as if the universe recognizes the stance we’re taking and rearranges itself accordingly.

This is the heart of Mitra.

Mythology as a Teacher of Goodwill

Mythology is full of characters who embody this principle. Not through perfection, but through orientation and the way they meet the world.

Anasūyā’s purity is not moral purity; it is relational purity. She meets the impossible test of the Trimūrti with goodwill so steady that even the gods soften in her presence. Her clarity doesn’t come from intellect. It comes from the friendliness of her heart.

Menakā’s intelligence is not cunning; it is adaptive, relational, attuned. She solves problems by entering the situation with curiosity rather than hostility.

Even Takṣaka — fierce, subterranean, destiny‑shaping — teaches us that the underworld of our own fears becomes navigable when we stop approaching it like an enemy.

These myths are not about being “nice.”
They are about holding a stance that keeps the mind clear enough to see the real solution.

Goodwill as Problem‑Solving

One of the quiet truths of Mitra is that many problems are not solved by force, strategy, or analysis. They dissolve when the emotional field shifts.

  • Hostility clouds Mercury.

  • Envy distorts perception.

  • Insecurity narrows the mind.

  • Fear collapses our options.

But goodwill - genuine, unforced goodwill - opens the field again.

It creates the internal spaciousness where insight can land.
It turns the heart into the empty sphere that can catch lightning. (Just like the Vajra in my diagram)

This is why Mitra is associated with Mercury’s balanced intelligence - a friendly mind is a clear mind.

An Invitation

This episode reminded me — and I hope it reminds you — that friendliness is not naïve. It is powerful. It is clarifying. It is a way of participating in the intelligence of the world.

I’d love to hear your thoughts …

  • Where has goodwill opened a path you couldn’t see before?
Where has a friendly stance changed the outcome of a situation?

You can listen to the full episode for the complete conversation.
Until next time, may your heart stay spacious and your mind stay friendly.
