A simple way to get started with Adityas

I think most of you who follow me will know that I’ve fallen ‘head-over-heels’ for the Adityas :D But I often hear from colleagues that they feel overwhelmed by enormity of the system - instead of just 12 zodiac signs - there are 7 beings for each Rasi, meaning 84 in total! And all the mythology!?! Who’s got the time??

That’s why I wanted to invite Josh Harper on to the podcast because he’s built 2 easy to use tools that can get you started straight away!

Why the Ādityas Matter to Me

When I first learned Vedic astrology, I was startled to find the zodiac filled with Greek imagery — Aries, Taurus, Gemini — symbols that didn’t feel rooted in the culture, philosophy, or mythic intelligence of India. It took years of practice before I found a system that felt truly Vedic, truly mythic, truly aligned with the cosmology I had been longing for.

The Ādityas changed everything.

They reframed the ecliptic as Aditi herself — the goddess of love — and each 30‑degree segment as a distinct expression of that love. Suddenly, astrology wasn’t about personality traits. It was about twelve forms of love, twelve ways the Sun’s chariot moves through the year, accompanied by a retinue of beings who help us navigate life’s laws, lessons, and inner terrain.

But the system is big — 84 beings across Āditya, Hōra, and Trimśāṁśa layers. And for many people, that size becomes a barrier.

This is why Josh’s work feels so helpful.

The SunFlare App - Meeting the Beings One Moment at a Time

Josh built SunFlare because he felt the same overwhelm many students feel. He wanted a way to see, simply and clearly, which beings are active right now — without needing to memorize the entire cosmology.

SunFlare shows:

  • the current Āditya

  • the current Ṛṣi

  • the current Nāga

  • the Hōra beings

  • the Trimśāṁśa beings tied to the planets (Ṛṣi, Gandharvas, Rākṣasas, Yakṣas, Apsaras)

And each being has:

  • a short description

  • the love or law associated with it

  • reflection questions

  • a beautiful visual emblem

It’s a way to dip your toes into the water, to meet the beings one at a time, in the rhythm of daily life, without needing to “learn everything” first.

For newcomers, this is invaluable and for seasoned practitioners it’s really helpful.

Hōra and Trimśāṁśa - The Soul Stances and Elemental Beings

One of the most meaningful parts of this conversation was how clearly Josh articulated the two Hōra stances:

  • Aditi territory - where love flows outward

  • Nāga territory - where love moves inward, releasing what is held

These two stances help people understand how their planets express love - externally or internally - and this alone can transform how someone relates to their chart.

Then comes the Trimśāṁśa layer, where each planet becomes a doorway into a class of beings:

  • Mars → Gandharvas

  • Saturn → Rākṣasas

  • Mercury → Yakṣas

  • Venus → Apsaras

  • Jupiter → Ṛṣis

This is where the richness of the system blooms. Suddenly, a planet isn’t just “in a sign.” It’s in a being, with a story, a mythic function and a psychological texture.

For me, this is where the Ādityas feel like a watercolor set with every color - not the black‑white‑gray palette of traditional astrology.

84Beings.com - A Personal Doorway Into Your Own Chart

SunFlare shows the beings of the moment. 84Beings.com shows the beings of your birth.

It’s personal. It’s clickable. It’s intuitive. And it allows people to begin with their beings - not all 84 at once.

Josh also collaborated with Laura Barrat, who is writing Sun‑in‑Āditya and Moon‑in‑Āditya reports that offer depth, nuance and self‑understanding

This is the heart of the episode for me: the shift from overwhelm to intimacy. From “I don’t know where to start” to “I can begin right here.”

For anyone standing at the threshold of the Ādityas, unsure where to begin, this episode offers a doorway — one that is clear, beautiful, and grounded in love.
